Mrs. Ella Juanita Taylor

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!  We are excited about beginning our fourth year of Eureka Math, which is completely aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  The goal is for your child to master mathematical concepts that are common to 8th grade students in the United States.  Your child will receive a packet for each Module of study.  There will be teacher made assessments throughout the Modules. At the beginning of this school year your child will be administered a Diagnostic test facilitated through the School District, as well as two Interim Tests during the year and a Summative Test at the end of the year. The format of these tests is similar to the LEAP 2025 State Test.  We are hopeful that your child will gain confidence in test taking.  You need to be aware that student performance on the Leap 2025 test greatly impacts the school score.  The school receives a score of “zero” for each student who obtains scores of Approaching Basic or Unsatisfactory. Our students need to obtain scores of Advance, Mastery or Basic to positively impact our school performance score. Your assistance is greatly needed in assuring that your child does his or her best to learn the standards for 8th grade.  They need to be prepared for High School and life.

The goal for this class is Mathematical empowerment for all students.  There are seven Modules of Study. Problem Sets are at the end of each lesson. Although they may be started in class they are expected to be completed at home.  Homework is assigned daily and is due the following day.  If your child was absent from school, the assignment will be due the day after they return.   Each student has an assignment calendar.  They should refer to it when they are absent.  Most lessons can be viewed from my web page.  If your child is absent for a test, it is his/her responsibility to make up that test upon their return
